The Perfect Sex Talk
I am over it.
As a parent I am over it.
I am done obsessing every little stinking detail.
I am done researching until I have research coming out of my ears.
Done trying to find the perfect:
Sunscreen
Vitamin
Amount of screen time
Amount of TV time
Bed time
Amount of sleep
It’s not that I don’t care about these things. I deeply do. But, I am done trying to find the “perfect” way to do these things. The reality is that there is no “perfect” way to do these things and let’s be honest in 6 months they (the “experts”) will change their mind, especially with sunscreen. There are guidelines, but no perfect way.
My guess is that you are at this point and some of you have been for a while.
The same is true with talking with your child about sex. There is no perfect way.
As a teen expert and now a parent, I have obsessed over finding the perfect way and timing of parents talking with their child about sex. Here is the brass tax, there is no perfect way or time.
For some of you that is a relief and others of you are having a mild panic attack.
Now, I am not saying that you shouldn’t talk with your child about sex. Your child needs you to. I am not saying that there aren’t things you should cover by certain ages, there are. But, what I am saying is that there is no one perfect way or timing to talk to your child about sex.
What matters is that you and I do.
This month, this week and even today. Something. Anything.
Our children need us to talk with them about sex. They need us to explain what the Bible says about sex. Even if it is something that we have already told them.
Don’t let the fear of finding the perfect way stop you.
And let go of the guilt. We will mess it up. We will mess up our children.
But, God.
But, God is greater than our imperfections and will take our faithfulness to disciple our children in Biblical sexuality and use it for His glory and their good.
Let's go be faithful. Today.
